Rotor Blade

A steam turbine uses thermal energy from pressurized steam to provide the rotary motion for a generator in a thermal or nuclear power plant. Every steam turbine has series of fixed blades (nozzles) and moving (rotor) blades to expand the steam.

From the fixed blades the steam pushes against the rotor blades and drives them forward. When passing through the rotor blades the steam pressure drops and its velocity decreases. Since the rotor blades are subject to stress, high temperature, corrosion and thermal fatigue, tehy should be precisely manufactured.
